Responding to more death in the Channel

Overnight on 15 December 2023, a boat was in distress in the Channel, carrying people in the hopes of finding safety in the UK. Sadly one person lost their life.

Katie Morrison, CEO at Safe Passage: “It’s truly awful to wake up to news of yet more loss of precious life in the Channel. Our thoughts are with everyone who was distressed on that boat overnight, in the dark and freezing cold.

“This Government has continued to ignore our warnings that it must act now to save lives by opening safe routes. People seeking protection need other ways to get here without risking their lives at sea. Refugees fleeing war and persecution should be able to arrive here by train or plane, with a refugee visa, to seek the protection they need and reunite with family.”
