Supporting Afghan refugees at risk

Our teams in France and the UK work alongside our partners at Refugee Legal Support on the Afghan Pro Bono Initiative, which supports Afghans fleeing persecution and the Taliban.

We work alongside pro-bono law firms to help Afghan families reunite and live their lives free from danger in both the UK and France. In addition, we provide information to all those in danger, including support on accessing the Afghan Relocation and Assistance Policy (ARAP) scheme, and providing information on the Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme (ACRS).

We are in the unique position of being able to support Afghans with complicated applications that are almost impossible to navigate without legal support. There is a huge need for such support and legal aid provisions are sadly limited for those that need them.

Campaigning for change

Afghans face barriers to reaching safety and reuniting with their families in both France and the UK.

Our support in both countries gives us first-hand experience of the systems that put refugee lives at risk and allows us to campaign for change to make it easier for Afghans to access a safe route to a place where they can be safe and rebuild their lives.

Our report, Two years of empty promises: the UK leaves Afghans stranded and at risk, highlights the challenges faced by Afghan people in accessing resettlement schemes in the UK.

Supporting the Afghan communities in the UK

As well as aiding Afghan refugees, Safe Passage provides support to the wider Afghan community in the UK.

We help them understand the complex requirements for safe routes to the UK and signpost them to support available for their friends and family, whether it be in the UK, in Afghanistan, or in the surrounding region.

Are you Afghan living in either the UK or elsewhere? Or are you involved with supporting Afghans to reach the UK. Then sign up for our Afghan routes newsletter.
