Supporting child refugees to reunite with their families

Our team in Greece works to reunite child refugees with their families across Europe.

We support refugee children in Greece who are looking to reach relatives elsewhere in Europe.

We are in the unique position of being a Greek organisation, specialising in family reunion, that has staff members in both Greece, France and the UK. This is vital for our work in guiding refugees through the whole process of refugee family reunion.

Greece: a country of arrival into Europe...

On the Greek islands, children are kept in camps with unsanitary conditions, waiting for their transfer to the mainland. Many have family in Europe and need help to reach them.

Safe Passage Greece provides legal support to children who wish to join a family member elsewhere in the EU and UK. We provide social support to refugee children in Greece while we help them with their claim to reunite with their families across Europe.

Working in conjunction with Safe Passage France and UK, we guide refugee children through the EU’s Dublin III family reunion mechanism and the UK’s own immigration rules, offering them social and legal support as they navigate the process.

… and departure

Since 2020, Safe Passage in Greece provides legal aid to cases needing to reunite with relatives outside of Greece, under the Dublin III mechanism. The team works closely with Safe Passage France to support child refugees throughout the journey.

We also provide support to children in Greece seeking to reach other European countries, whether through Dublin III, or via the UK’s own ‘entry clearance family reunion’ rules.
