Freelance videographer – expression of interest
UK based.
This is not a specific job ad, so has no set hours or minimum requirements.
Videographers’ consultancy agreement and hourly/day rate - dependent on experience and subject to negotiation. We have budgeted based on an hourly rate of £40-60
Main contact will be Digital Campaigns and Fundraising Manager, with further contact with specific other Safe Passage staff as required.
Safe Passage is accepting expressions of interest from freelance videographers based in the UK to shoot various videos for Safe Passage. Videographers will support the Fundraising and Campaigns Teams by shooting videos of key events such as campaign actions and refugees reuniting with their families on arrival in the UK.
Some of the videos may involve taking video of young people and other people with asylum-seeking backgrounds, often in vulnerable circumstances. We therefore require a satisfactory criminal record background check (paid for by Safe Passage) and all videographers to complete training in both safeguarding and shooting video in sensitive circumstances (provided by Safe Passage) before they can shoot videos involving young people.
We are aiming to have multiple videographers. We are therefore accepting expressions of interest on an ongoing process.
We value equality and diversity in our organisation, and strive to build a workforce reflective of the communities we work in. We welcome applications from everyone regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, faith, or disability.
Due to the nature of the events being captured, people with refugee or asylum-seeking backgrounds are experts by experience and are particularly encouraged to apply.
If you would like an informal chat about these roles and your experiences, please do reach out to Henry our Digital Campaigns and Fundraising Manager, on henry@safepassage.org.uk

We are looking for people with a keen interest in videography with a combination of some of these skills/experiences:
Video skills relevant to our work – demonstrated through examples of capturing individuals, groups, or campaign events, or a mixture of the above
Your own equipment

Please note, you do not need to have all the above experience to be considered for the role. Experience also does not need to be from paid work and can include examples from volunteering, support in your local community, internships, work experience, or knowledge you’ve gained in any other way.
As a refugee charity, we offer a guaranteed interview for people with lived experience of seeking asylum who meet most of the criteria outlined in the Person Specification. If you have first-hand experience of applying for asylum in any country, please let us know in your application.
We respect that people’s identity is not defined by their past experiences and do not expect candidates to describe their lived experience during the interview process unless they wish to.
Other requirements:
A commitment to Safe Passage’s programme and values
You must already have the full right to work in the UK
A DBS certificate will be required before you can attend a shoot
How do I apply?
Apply by sending evidence of your videography and a short summary (1-2 paragraphs is fine) of why you’re interested in the role to recruitment@safepassage.org.uk with the Email Subject Line: First name, Surname, Videographer Expression of Interest.
We welcome applications via different mediums! Your summary can be written in the body of the email, a Word Doc or PDF.

About Safe Passage
Safe Passage was founded in late 2015 in response to what became known as Europe’s modern ‘refugee crisis’. In the past few years we have grown from a small UK project, to an international organisation with 33 members of staff supporting refugees to access safe routes to sanctuary across Europe. To date more than 2,000 individuals have travelled to safety through routes we have opened.
Our vision is for every person seeking asylum to be able to access a safe and legal route to a place where they can lead a full and dignified life.
We do things differently - championing refugees’ rights by combining strategic legal work, advocacy, capacity building and community organising.
We are focused on achieving systemic change in refugee and asylum policy at both nation-state and international level.
Our work is recognised with awards from Liberty, Sheila McKechnie, the European Parliament and EU Commission. We were also chosen as one of The Guardian’s ‘Charity of the Year’ in 2016 and we were the winner of the 2021 Charity Awards in the campaigning and advocacy category.
Feedback
We welcome feedback on the application process and encourage you to contact our Operations Team via hr@safepassage.org.uk with any feedback that will help us improve our inclusive recruitment processes in the future, with both positive reflections and suggestions for development.
As a small charity, we are unfortunately unable to provide feedback on CVs and Cover Letters, however, we do provide tailored feedback to all candidates who are invited to interview.
We wish you the best of luck with your application and look forward to hearing from you!
