Not All Children Safeguarded In Calais
“Citizens UK’s Safe Passage team in Calais have warned that not all the unaccompanied children from the Calais camp have been registered, despite the authorities announcing yesterday that the camp is now empty, and many are being left at huge risk. The closure of the reception centre today means that around 100 children are now left in limbo in Calais with nowhere to sleep and nowhere to register, leading many to resort to sleeping rough. We call on both the British and French governments to act to ensure all the unaccompanied children in Calais are registered and safeguarded today, and that all children are processed and out of the containers by next week. There are no excuses for any delay, the facilities on the ground are available, and every night children are not safeguarded they face unnecessarily high levels of danger.”
