Homes for Ukraine

It is good news that the Government has opened a new community sponsorship scheme for Ukrainian refugees. It has been absolutely heartening to see how up and down the country, British people are ready & waiting to welcome Ukrainian refugees through this vital new safe route.

However it is not only Ukrainian refugees who should benefit from a scheme like this – all refugees fleeing war and persecution need a route to safety. We’re asking that the Government extends this scheme to other refugees – no matter where they’ve fled from.

It is vital that the Government doesn’t cut corners makes sure that the right support is in place to keep everyone safe. As well as a place to call home, they must also make sure that Ukrainians have the right support to rest, recover and rebuild from local services.

As communities across the country step up, we hope the Government will do the same. To match the scale and pace of this crisis, we urge the Government to also waive visas for Ukrainians so they can travel safely to seek sanctuary here.

Whilst opening a safe route for Ukrainians, the Government is going to slam the door shut on other refugees with their #AntiRefugeeBill. They must scrap these plans - and instead take the lead from the British public, who are preparing to welcome those in need of sanctuary.
