Responding to far right attacks this week
This week has seen shocking and hateful violence across the UK following the tragic killing of children in Southport.
Here is our response to far right violence and racist rhetoric:
Gunes Kalkan, Head of Campaigns at Safe Passage International: “The violence and hateful rhetoric over the last few days, fuelled by misinformation, is sickening. Weaponising and capitalising on a devastating tragedy and people’s grief is abhorrent. Our hearts go out to the victims and families impacted by the senseless Southport attack.
“We know Muslim and immigrant communities are terrified right now – we must show support and solidarity with them. Many of the people we work with have fled to the UK to find safety, having faced persecution and violence similar to that from the far-right this week, and now they are being threatened again.
“Anti-migrant hate, Islamophobia and racism have no place in our society and communities. Everyone has the right to feel safe.”
