Two years of war in Sudan: Syed’s story

Two years ago, war broke out in Sudan — and Syed*’s life, like many others, changed forever.

At just 16, Syed lost both his parents in a militia attack. He was forcibly separated from his siblings, and hasn’t heard from them ever since. With no other option, he set off to join his remaining family in the UK, alone. His journey across borders, through Libya, was terrifying. And when he finally applied to come to the UK, after everything he went through, his application was refused.

It was a devastating blow. But we didn’t give up — we challenged the decision, and now we’re waiting for the outcome of his appeal. There’s real hope that Syed and his family could be together soon.

Two years on, this war has already taken over 150,000 lives and forced millions to flee. Sudan is now one of the largest humanitarian and displacement crises, yet the world continues to look away, and many more children are still stuck in danger.

Our Sudan project provides expert legal and social support to families torn apart by this conflict, helping children like Syed reach safety and rebuild their lives. But it is only possible because of people like you, donating what they can to keep this vital project alive. Donate today to life-changing legal support >>
