Calais Demolition Underway But Children Not Yet Safe
This week the Safe Passage UK team in Calais have been helping to safeguard all the unaccompanied minors we have been working with as the authorities register them and transfer them to the UK. Our teams escorted the children away from the camp and when possible avoided the crowds outside the reception centre, in order to help them avoid any potential danger.
Most of the unaccompanied children we have been working with are now registered with the authorities. Some have been transferred to the UK already, and we are keeping in regular contact with those who have not been transferred, as well as continuing to alert the authorities that they are still waiting for transfer.
We continue to call on the authorities to make the transfers as soon as possible. The containers where the children are currently housed do not have proper facilities and should only be a very short-term solution.
