Safe asylum routes for Afghan Refugees

Two years since Kabul fell to the Taliban, the Government is still failing to honour its commitments to help Afghans reach safety. Our new parliamentary briefing, ‘Safe Asylum Routes for Afghan Refugees’, explores the shortcomings of existing resettlement schemes.

Drawing on observations from our legal casework with Afghan refugees, we make three recommendations:

  • Fix the existing Afghan schemes, including the Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy (ARAP) and Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme (ACRS)

  • Fix family reunion

  • Offer welcome and compassion to those forced to seek sanctuary
