Briefing on the Refugees (Family Reunion) Bill

Families belong together, but restrictive laws make reunification nearly impossible for many - including unaccompanied children. Introduced in September, the Refugees (Family Reunion) Bill could offer hope to many torn apart by war and persecution, giving them a chance to reunite in safety.

This briefing was prepared with the British Red Cross, International Rescue Committee and Refugee Council, as part of the Safe Routes Coalition, an informal coalition from across the refugee and international development sectors advocating for safe routes for refugees, ahead of the Committee Stage debate at the House of Lords on 17th January.

Building on our legal expertise providing vital support to chill refugees wishing to reunite with loved ones across Europe, we highlight the significant shortcomings of the current family reunion system and how the Bill could help fix these.
