265 election candidates pledge to support refugee rights!
As the UK heads to the polls today, we're acutely aware that this election could be a real turning point for refugees who've endured the harsh consequences of hostile policies for years.
In response to the snap election, we launched #RallyWithRefugees - a campaign aimed at putting refugee rights at the heart of the political debate. Thousands of us reached out to political parties and candidates with one simple yet vital ask: to pledge support for safe routes if elected. We had a strong response, with over 260 candidates from various parties stepping forward, with the aim of creating a strong voice for refugees in Parliament.
But we didn’t stop there. Our action toolkit empowered people up and down the country to engage with canvassers and candidates on refugee rights and mobilise their friends and families to join our cause. We saw many transform their homes into billboards for justice and solidarity by displaying our posters on their doors and windows.
And finally, we rallied in London to send a powerful message: this election could shape the future for refugees, and most people in the UK want this future to be filled with hope, family, and freedom - not more hostility.
We’re grateful to everyone who signed our pledge, talked to their candidates, took our message to the streets and convinced others to join the fight. We couldn't do what we do without this groundswell of support. Together, we've shown that the UK is ready to offer refugees the safety and warm welcome they desperately need.
But our work doesn't stop at the ballot box. As we await the election results, we're gearing up to work with the new Government to push for real change for refugees. If you'd like to support us on this journey, please consider making a donation to fuel our fight to reunite families and defend refugee rights.
